I spent my early years in Plymouth before my parents moved to Bristol; where, hoping to become a Forensic Scientist, I spent a year studying for a BSc in Chemistry. However, following an attachment to the Bristol City force I joined up and served on two divisions in the City.
The Constabulary had a small museum at H.Q. and I became secretary of the museum society. Following the amalgamation of Bristol into the Avon and Somerset Police, the museum went into store.
Meanwhile I was a Communications Operator for a spell before returning to Patrol duties as a Sergeant and later as an Inspector, becoming part of the Communications Planning and Technical support team.
In retirement I began to help at the Police heritage collection at Okehampton where I was honoured to be the first Chairman of the newly-formed Friends group. I continue to assist with the preservation and promotion of this unique collection.
