After a career in the police spanning 37 years, Steve retired as an Assistant Chief Constable of Devon and Cornwall Police at the end of 2003.

He served in a number of roles throughout both counties, this included as the Divisional Commander for Plymouth.

He was awarded the Queens Police Medal for his work in supporting the communities of Devon and Cornwall and shortly after retirement he was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Devon.

Since retiring from the Police, Steve has been involved with a number of local, voluntary, and charitable organisations. More recently the Plymouth Drake Foundation; Hamoaze House and Crimestoppers.

Steve has been a Trustee of the Museum of Policing in Devon & Cornwall from August 2019, and was its Chair until September 2024.
